The Paradox Club, a brand new experience from White Mischief

If you’ve been seeking something different from your nightlife, look no further. Tough Love, White Mischief and Lucifer Box are proud to introduce The Paradox Club, where you become part of the story.
Incorporating interactivity, participation, costumed characters, theatrics and improvisation into a club environment, The Paradox Club is more than a party, it’s an experience where you get to rub shoulders with time travellers and meet the strange cast of eccentrics who run the place.
Approaching an unassuming door on an East London street, you may be unaware that you are about to step through a portal sited at the entrance to a rip in the very fabric of time itself.
THE PARADOX CLUB is situated in a rift in the space-time continuum, its staff and stars locked together for an eternity while voyagers from other eras may enter and exit as they wish.
Like a departure lounge for time travellers, THE PARADOX CLUB is the only place where you can dance to music from the past, present and future while mingling with partygoers from every era in history.
What year are you from: 2009? 1999? 1989? 1919? 1889? Be sure to decide and bring with you any costumes or memorabilia from your time period to share with the proprietors of THE PARADOX CLUB, who will be opening their time gate at 8pm GMT on the third Friday of every month from July 17 2009 AD onwards.
The July 17 party will not be announced to the press and so will be just for our closest friends and supporters, in other words you, the elite Mischief Makers who have made our shows so much fun.

Amundsen & Slade’s Sonic Sideshow

Clad in Jules Verne-esque copper and jade-coloured leather suits worthy of any steampunk, Amundsen and Slade are two mad scientists whose mission is to get audience members interacting with each other through sound.
The Sonic Soul Suits are covered in sensor pads and connected wirelessly to both a laptop and a sampling microphone. With the suits on, Amundsen and Slade (or audience members) can sample and loop sound, move sound from one body part to the next, duel with samples or create entirely new pieces of music together.
The Correspondents
Blending hip hop MCing with vintage jazz, there are few bands who can get a party jumping like The Correspondents, which is why we’re so excited to have them on the main stage at our “Journey To The Centre Of The Earth” party on Saturday 23 May.
Having surprised crowds with their antics at The Secret Garden and Glastonbury last year, The Correspondents have become a super-hot name on the music scene and by this time next year it’s possible they’ll be selling out venues the size of Scala themselves.

With just a few days to go before White Mischief “Around the World in 80 Days”, we can at last unveil our final acts to be announced, the seers and mystics of our exotic Hall of Oracles. Although our good friend Mam’zelle Fifi is sadly no longer able to appear at White Mischief, we’re delighted to say that a new friend – and a brilliant artist of note – has stepped into the breach with an astounding aerial performance that will thrill your eyes and ears.
Here Miss Amundsen – Bipolarexplorer presents her naughtical misadventure on the high seas! Watch in awestruck horror as she faces down creatures of the deep, her own puny physique and raging alcoholism to map the unknown outer reaches of extreme sea-shanty practise with the help of her intrepid, flying accordion. Read on for more information and a full-size photo.
Todd Hart

You may know Todd Hart from his DJ appearances at Durrr, but he originally caught our attention as proprietor of the unique MP3 blog “Dalston Oxfam Shop Blog”, which takes music that has by some been consigned to the bargain bin of life and puts it in front of the hipster digerati, uploaded and ready for the iPod generation to enjoy.
One fascinating seam of discoveries within the blog has a decidedly African flavour, which may have as much to do with the fact that Todd grew up in Kenya and Tanzania as it does with with the fact that the occasional African mixtape found its way into the Dalston second-hand shop. But there’s no doubt that Todd Hart has pioneered the current crossover between world or African-influenced sounds blended with bands or dance music, with his Manifesto party pushing forward the boundaries every Tuesday night at the Burlington Club. Todd has agreed to play an all-African set at White Mischief and will be playing from the peak of the night in the main room. Read more

Among the most respected DJs of jazz on the cabaret and dressup scene, Lady Kamikaze is host of the Black Cotton Club and regularly appears with her partner El Nino at the Lady Luck Club. There’s no questioning her dedication to classic style and authentic vintage music, which is why any night with Kamikaze on the decks is bound to swing.
Since she last played at White Mischief, Lady Kamikaze has featured in a glamorous fashion shoot in the newspapers while the Black Cotton / Lady Luck empire of clubs has gone from strength to strength. Not forgetting, of course, the amazing Black Cotton vintage retailer at the Stables market in Camden, which should be a staple for any buyer of vintage clothers. We a’re delighted to welcome her back… check within for photos.

Ophelia Bitz is a good friend to White Mischief, having performed at the last two shows – notably before a crowd of bemused budding life-drawing students when Dr. Sketchy held a salon at our Conway Hall show. Recently Ms. Bitz has been on stage with the brilliant Tiger Lilies as part of their London show; she’s also a notable MC and club promoter in her own right, as well as being known by the masses for her appearances with pop singer Mika and scary magician Derren Brown. With so many talents to spare, Ophelia has been invited to curate her own space at this White Mischief and will be putting together the mysterious “Hall of Oracles”.
