It’s by no means compulsory to dress up at White Mischief – we welcome every type of mischief maker, no matter how they are attired. Still, we encourage everyone to enter into the spirit of the occasion and past shows have seen some fabulous outfits: everything from giant pandas to steampunk rocketmen. It needn’t be expensive: imagination costs nothing!
This time round the theme is “Around the World in 80 Days”, again drawn from a Jules Verne novel, allowing those of you with a love of Victoriana to indulge your steampunk fantasies. For everyone else there is a whole globe’s worth of inspiration to make use of. India, Africa, China, Japan, Mexico, Polynesia, the USA, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Thailand, South America, Egypt, the Middle East, Brazil, Spain… literally any country could become the basis for a look. Check inside for videos, photos and links not only to our articles on steampunk but also links to our huge directory of London’s best second hand, charity, vintage, retro and antique clothing shops – plus information on costume rental locations, accessories providers and hair salons.
The Outside Royalty

It’s a mission at White Mischief to find live musical artistes who are willing to step over the precipice with a bold visual and sonic identity, and The Outside Royalty are a perfect example. Using cello, violin and synths to create a sound they call “electro chamber rock”, and based out of a squalid Victorian terrace, few bands could be as well suited to the steampunk vaudevile of a White Mischief show as this six piece. So we’re looking forward to welcoming them in on June 7. Read on for photos and a video.

When we started White Mischief, there was only one rule about the kinds of bands we’d book. It doesn’t matter what genre, what style of music they make…as long as they are completely different, brilliant live and a world away from the dour indie fodder that can be found at the usual toilet venues. If there’s an act that embodies the spirit of what we’re looking for in terms of risque theatricality and undeniable uniqueness it’s Ebony Bones. You may have heard Ebony Bones on Radio 1 as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in The World… now get ready to catch her and her band live in the flesh as headliners of the second stage at White Mischief. Read on for videos, photos and laudatory press quotes galore…

Dusty Limits has been called “the best MC on the Edinburgh festival fringe”, has hosted nights including his own noted show Kabarett, and has been feted by American magazine Newsweek. Plus he’s been an acerbic compere at the past two White Mischief shows and is returning to host an evening of song and sarcasm at our second stage on Saturday 7, June, 2008.

White Mischief regulars will know that our shows are full of unforgettable happenings around the venue as well as on the main stages. By way of a few spontaneous sets around the building, Ta Mère will share their inimitable gypsy jazz up close and personal.
So who are Ta Mère? Three guys-about-town, on the town, getting down and swinging hard. A creation by special request of the BBC for the 2007 Glasgow Film Festival, they’ve been catapulted from these auspicious beginnings onto the London scene.

DJing at the next White Mischief on Saturday June 7 are The Broken Hearts: Amber and Nisha, a DJ and performance duo who see every show as an opportunity to get dressed up.
Combining an eclectic DJ set with their extensive wardrobe of identical costumes and occasional choreographed routines, the girls provide a spectacular experience for the eyes and ears. Drawing from the iconography of Weimar Berlin, circus sideshows and the Golden Age of Hollywood their show is a technicolour extravaganza that takes the DJ out from behind the decks and into the limelight.
Tricity Vogue

Bringing some glamour to the White Mischief second stage on June 7, Tricity Vogue presents her own charming blend of slink and sass – the music she likes to call “cheeky jazz”. Think Peggy Lee after a few too many cocktails.
A vintage songstress with her tongue firmly in her cheek, Tricity’s glamorous cabaret jazz act involves fabulous gowns, her very own horn section, and a small pink ukelele. Miss Vogue’s mischievously witty music harks back to a bygone era while at times sounding suspiciously contemporary.
