We recommend: The Uncanny Valley with Professor Elemental

August 14, 2010 by Tobias

  • Thursday, August 26 7:30 pm
  • The Uncanny Valley
  • Hen and Chicken Theatre: 109 St Paul’s Road, London, UK (MAP)
  • Musicians play live with decrepit dolls, theremins and robots in this eerie entertainment, exploring our fears of the almost human – from golems to ventriloquists’ dummies.
  • Hot from their sell-out run on the Brighton Festival Fringe, dreamlike musical and mechanical inventors Spacedog join forces with gentleman rapper Professor Elemental, known for his YouTube sensation Cup of Brown Joy, a paean to the pleasures of drinking tea.

D…eath ballads, unsettling live robotics and tales of the professor’s extreme taxidermy experiments, in a night that will take you to the darkest reaches of your mind.

“One of the most inventive acts playing at the moment”, Melita Dennett, BBC

“Eerie, evocative and hilarious – tremendous fun”, Roger Highfield.

“A stand-out moment of psychedelic neo-Victorian rap genius”, Monkey Boxing magazine.

    Not suitable for children.

    Dear Friends and Mischief Makers

If you’ve been along to a White Mischief show there’s every chance you will have seen The Correspondents, Mr B and Vicky Butterfly, who are among the finest performers on the UK cabaret scene. You won’t, however, have seen them all on the same stage on the same night…until now.

Our pals at gorgeous Shoreditch club The Last Days of Decadence have assembled all those stars and more for their party this Saturday…and they’re inviting twenty Mischief Makers to share in the fun for free.

See below for information on how to win your tickets.

    —————–

Saturdays at The Last Days of Decadence

Join us this week as we brim with excitement – The Correspondents shall gracing our stage again. Joining them this week will be the delectable Vicky Butterfly, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, Ben De Vere and The Marquis of Gray. We know we spoil you, and for the hyper-intelligent among you it may be about to get even better, but only if you can answer the question below:

The Son of ‘who’ was famously crucified around 2010 years ago.

    Was it;

    a) Plato

    b) God

    c) Ptolemy XV

First 10 correct entries receive complimentary entrance for themselves and a friend to ‘The Last Days of Decadence’, (which consequently is where our protagonist was reportedly hiding before his big ‘resurrection’)

Costume hire, vintage stores and hair salons

deptford.jpgDressing up is by no means compulsory at White Mischief, but we encourage our partygoers to enter into the spirit of things and in doing so we’ve come across dozens of wonderful vintage clothing emporiums, hair salons, costume hire warehouses and more. So we’re delighted to share the best of London’s costume and vintage scene with you here. Remember, while designer clothes may be expensive, imagination costs nothing and it’s possible to pick up some true style for very little cost at these wonderful locations. Don’t forget to tell them you found out about them on the White Mischief site.

    20% off costumier Prangsta

    prangstacollage

We’ve long recommended Prangsta in our extensive list of costumiers and vintage retailers. Now we’re proud to announce that Prangsta is White Mischief’s preferred rental costumier, offering a 20% discount for White Mischief fans.

We have yet to discover a costume rental company whose outfits are as sumptuous, nor have we found a shop who will spend so much time personalising an outfit to the customer’s precise needs. This isn’t fancy dress, this is make-believe on a grand scale.
