Ophelia Bitz is a good friend to White Mischief, having performed at the last two shows – notably before a crowd of bemused budding life-drawing students when Dr. Sketchy held a salon at our Conway Hall show. Recently Ms. Bitz has been on stage with the brilliant Tiger Lilies as part of their London show; she’s also a notable MC and club promoter in her own right, as well as being known by the masses for her appearances with pop singer Mika and scary magician Derren Brown. With so many talents to spare, Ophelia has been invited to curate her own space at this White Mischief and will be putting together the mysterious “Hall of Oracles”.
Bitz is a compere, broadcaster for everyone from Channel 4 Radio to Resonance FM, performance artist, comedienne, muse, events promoter, writer and cabaret performer specialising in hands-free cocktail shaking and dubious forms of anatomical bar-tending.
She sings, dances, performs striptease (if you’re lucky), sets herself on fire, teaches fandancing to old ladies in Blackpool and is generally one of the UKs finest comic performers and party mammals. She has shaken and stirred the likes of Derren Brown, Tim Burton, The Dresden Dolls and UK #1 Mika. She has graced every stage from the beloved Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, Raymond’s Revue Bar and The Cobden Club to The Speigel Tent, The Astoria, Mahiki and Koko.
Bitz is a performer of many genres from physical theatre to occasional cancan girl, with lashings of grog and naughtiness along the way. She likes nothing better than behaving like a dingbat, reeling out the puns, witticisms and filth and taking all her clothes off. She has appeared in Rolling Stone, Time Out, The Guardian, Alternative, The Independent, Grazia, NME, Now, Scarlet, London Lite, The London Paper, DX International, Super-Super and ID.
“Ophelia Bitz, a renowned burlesque dancer, proves the old adage that skinny isn’t what is sexy: confidence is what is sexy. And shaking up a cocktail with your breasts, that’s pretty sexy. Then she swallows some fire, removes her corset to reveal tassel covered boobs, and departs the stage. And again: uproarious response.”
