Hairy Popins – for a look that’s practically perfect in every way!
Weaving in webs and styling spiders, the Hairy PoPins ladies will transform your tresses and layer luscious lacquer on your lips at their pop-up beauty salon.
For those wanting up-dos / hair styling make-up, pre-book an appointment to avoid disappointment. From only a fiver or so you’ll get the trademark PoPins glow.
As well as hair styling there will be make-up, and face/body painting courtesy of Squiggles and Wiggles.
(Note from White Mischief: this is for people of all genders and Hairy Popins / Squiggles and Wiggles can make the guys look like glamorous ghouls too!)
If you don’t get round to making a booking, still come and find Hairy Popins and Squiggles and Wiggles for hair, make-up and face/body painting on the top floor next to the photobooth.
Existing reservations will take priority but there should be spaces for walkups between 9pm and midnight.
Sometimes something so bizarre comes along, you just have to try it. How about anthropomorphic mouse taxidermy at the London Steampunk Market on 26 October?
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics to things that are not human…such as mice. In this workshop we will be exploring the process of taxidermy using little white mice and creating personal pieces of anthrpomorphic art using props.
Step by step you’ll learn the basics of taxidermy with manual crafting skills and non-toxic preservatives. From the first incision, you’ll remove bone and tissue, learning how to handle the creature, while getting a good look at it’s anatomy. After washing, drying and preserving the pelt, you’ll have the opportunity to wire up and stuff your mouse, sewing and positioning him, then attaching any objects you see fit to make him into an anthropomorphic creation of your choice using the props provided.
A selection of steampunk and other small props will be available to choose from including top hats, watch-gear monocles and glasses, tiny leather suitcases, chairs, old timey tripod cameras, bottles of liquor, and more. Feel free to bring your own props and clothing too for your mouse (I suggest 1:12 ratio doll house accessories).
If you dont fancy anthropomorphism, we can put your mouse in a natural position and feel free to bring any implements you may like to place your mouse on, such as a leaf, flower, feather, wine glass, wood block, etc.
The mice themselves are either sourced from reptile feed suppliers or are breeder mice from university laboratories. No animals are killed for the sake of the course. Please do not bring your any dead animals along.
I will be happy to answer any questions you have about future endeavors into taxidermy.
