THE FABULOUS PENETRATORS

“Live, they are a decadent and glorious spectacle: shunning skinny jeans and floppy fringe nonchalance, The Fabulous Penetrators are suited, booted, quaffed and masked. One minute it’s an eye-covering sheen of masked ball debauchery, the next the sumptous visors are replaced by a terrifying Toys R Us dog mask. Their theatrical, electrifying shows manage to be scrupulously tight yet debaucherously unhinged.”

-Base Ad Magazine

“London’s finest perv-rockers!”

-The Guardian

“This is pure garage punk perfection, 1960′s shing-a-ling explosion with the raw sex of The Sonics, growling gruffness of Howlin’ Wolf and dress-spinning twists of what is simply the best party soundtrack since 1968.”

KUNTA KINTE
Blending world-influenced drums and percussion with quirky, acerbic English lyrics, six-piece pop band Kunta Kinte have been described as “Adam Ant meets the Scissor Sisters” by UK industry publication Record Of The Day, which has featured the band twice, once awarding them Record of the Week.
The band has recorded with producers including Toby Smith (Jamiroquai, The Hoosiers), Phil Vinall (Elastica, Placebo) and James Lewis (Arctic Monkeys, Wombats, Morning Runner), with cult blog Popjustice describing the band as “very good” and saying that they “love” the track Stress.

Their dressed-up live shows are a riot of chanting backing vocals, facepaint and Victorian-inspired finery, which might explain why Record of the Day has said that “they look and sound like nothing we have seen in recent times” and Music Week called the group “brilliant – packed with pop hits and charisma.”

Having filled venues across London including the Barfly and Bloomsbury Bowling (supporting The Crimea), Kunta Kinte filmed the video for “Stress” at a 1930s-themed burlesque circus, with celebrities including Jeremy Irons and Keith Allen looking on.

The band are the co-creators of New Vaudeville night White Mischief, which combines live bands with wild magic and cabaret performances and at its last outing in November – with British Sea Power headlining – White Mischief was was voted club of the week by The Times, and described as “event of the week, the month, the year” by Time Out.

THE WOODSMEN

Who are The Woodsmen? The Woodsmen come from near the sea where the spray makes your lips salty and ghosts mingle with the hedonists at night. Some say that our protagonists came together on a moonless night, a couple of winters past, in some poorly lit backroom, but the current incarnation seems to have been in ascendant for about a year. However, the genesis of The Woodsmen is hazy, set not in any textbook version of ‘history’ but in a world of stories, rumour, hearsay, folk tales and myths; of murdered sailors, drowned lovers, ghouls and dead country singers.

A world awash with black magic, the sound of distant drums, of half imagined whispers moments before waking alone and distantly remembered temptresses. They number five among them, and in the disciplines of drums, guitars, mandolin, violin, guitars and singing they work. In so far as such a statement can a defining article, The Woodsmen have been described as playing folk and rockabilly, combining the narrative and texture of the former with the breakneck pace and black intensity of the latter, whilst bringing an element of their own to the dance-macabre. And among the scattered bottles, well thumbed copies of Baudelaire’s Les Fleur Du Mal, piled ashtrays and incomplete sets of playing cards that constitute their possessions, are to be found well loved LP’s by The Birthday Party, Fairport Convention, The Pogues, Dexys, Neil Young, Dirty Three, Gene Vincent and The Clash, all of whom, in part, are points of inspiration for the quintet.
Committed to corporeal record are the cd’s “only man in heaven wearing black” recorded on equipment stolen from Pinewood Studios, and still haunted by the death rattle of Vincent Price, and “The Grave” recorded over a lost weekend in May on an abandoned industrial site. It is said among some folk, that The Woodsmen can be seen in and around various Hostelries and bars in London town, Brighton village and occasionally further afield.

It is said that the best way to divine where to find The Woodsmen, is to go to the Oracle that is www.thewoodsmen.co.uk a place where other reports, rumours, slander and myths are collected for your perusal. All in a storm of speed, whiskey and white noise, cast yourself upon the rocks like ash upon the waves! Breathe deep the briney depths and rejoice! The Woodsmen are here for your souls, and whatever else you got…!
